Genetic Testing

Traceability tag numbers are required for all testing, to link the test results with the animal being registered. A traceability tag number is the 15-digit number that's printed on the white NLID or yellow CCIA button tag. (If you have already conducted testing and not used the animal's 15-digit traceability tag number as the identifier, please contact us.)

Neogen Canada is the CMJA's preferred testing partner, although we may be able to accept test results from alternate labs, such as the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory at UC Davis.

Required Tests

Parentage Verification is required for all animals registered with the CMJA to establish the integrity of the herdbook.

Even if the animal you are registering doesn't have its sire and dam on file, you still need to order this test so that its DNA is on file for parentage verifying any offspring.
Chondrodysplasia is required for all animals registered with the CMJA unless both parents have a negative test on file.
PHA Testing (pulmonary hypoplasia with anasarca) is required for all animals registered with the CMJA unless both parents have a negative test on file.
BBR Testing (Breed Base Representation) will be required once it becomes available for the CMJA. If you previously completed BBR testing, please submit a copy of the results to the CMJA when you register your animal.
Optional Tests

Milk Protein Testing is optional, but by providing the CMJA with a copy of the milk protein test results, your animal's Beta Casein A2 and Kappa Casein results will be recorded alongside its pedigree.
Horned/Polled Testing is optional but recommended if your animal is polled. By providing the CMJA with a copy of the horned/polled test results, your animal will be allowed to use the P (heterozygous polled) or PP (homozygous polled) suffix as part of their name.
